A little pre-game before dinner was a perfect idea. The Vault ‘Bear Hug’ Nitro Oatmeal Stout was really nice right out of gate. Dark and brooding with deep tan head, the aromas of light coffee, nuts and tree bark were intriguing. The initial flavors were soft, smooth and dryish.
But sometimes the best things need time and this little gem developed in the glass as it sat in front of me. The aromatics became more pronounced as did the flavors. Coffee, cocoa, light notes of cherry plus earth overtones were beautiful and while the palate was soft at first it became more medium-bodied and silky smooth through the finish.
