After enjoying a beautiful early spring day in the gardens, I was in the mood to make a nice dinner and enjoy a wine from the cellar. The temperature outside was dipping and I thought one of my new favorites was in order; carrot osso buco with a side of egg noodles. I also was in the mood for a red burgundy. So off I went to the cellar and after some rummaging around, emerged with an old favorite.
The 2002 ‘Clos du Ch. de Montaigu’ Mercurey 1er Cru from Domaine de Meix-Foulot was a delicious accompaniment to our meal. Now, after 19 years, the color is a slightly faded red. The aromas showed light fruit with a mushroom/earth note. On the palate the wine was silky smooth now. Lovely flavors of light cherry fruit and some distinct minerality. Just delightful to drink up now. Up from the Cellar from Wines Under the Radar.
