After a day of relaxing on beautiful Brigantine Beach it was time to take a stroll to our local fish monger. With dog in tow, we walked along Ocean Ave to the Crab Shack, a vendor of only wild caught denizens of the deep. I was in the mood for shellfish and the XL shrimp looked perfect, light grey with blueish tinted shell. It was going to pair well with the Aphros Loureiro, Vinho Verde 2018. I have always had an affinity for Vinho Verde when serving simply made seafood dishes. Wines Under the Radar continues to enjoy a laid back summer at the New Jersey shore.
The Aphros Loureiro 2018 Vinho Verde is made from 100% Loureiro and was fermented with indigenous yeasts and left on the fine lees for 4 months. The wine is pale to light yellow in color with nice texture. The aromas are firmly citrus with notes of orange pith and Meyer lemon, there is also a distinct note of minerality. The flavors are a reflection of the aromatics and minerality all giving way to beautifully framed acidity on the nicely balanced finish. Oh yeah, and by the way at $14 – $17 it definitely is a Wines Under the Radar. Certified Organic!! P.S. worked perfectly with the pan seared shrimp. Thanks
