A delicious wine from a grape variety that is, most assuredly, Under the Radar. It paired perfectly with my seared tuna and simple sides of mashed tots and crisp barely steamed broccoli. Grown in both Sicily and Tuscany, Insolia is the traditional ingredient in Marsala, but is now seen more and more in blends and as a single varietal of dry white wines. Wines like this are the reason I started Wines Under the Radar. Good, interesting wines that over deliver at their price point.
The Baglio di Pianetto Insolia 2019 is straw yellow in color. The bright citrus aromatics are fresh and clean and give way to a slight almond note. The medium-bodied, lively palate shows citrus notes along with orchard fruit flavors (apple) that just flows beautifully across the mouth and ends with a long and zippy finish. More please.
