On a recent trip to my local wine shop, I was looking for a medium to full bodied red to pair with a cold, cold winter night. I sought a recommendation from the wine buyer. We have been friends nearly 30+ years and I respect his taste buds. He recommended a southern Rhone wine from Vinsobres. In 2006, it was created as a separate AOC (formerly Cotes du Rhone Villages), and therefore received the status of a “Rhône Cru”. The wines must contain at least 50% Grenache and 25% Syrah and/or Mourvèdre…..right up my alley.
This wine was really good!! Even at $20+ a bottle it was a great example of a Wine Under the Radar. The Ch. De Rouanne Vinsobres 2018 is blend of 50% Grenache, 40% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre and was deep purple opaque in color. Bursting with aromas of raspberries and herbs it definitely wasn’t shy. On the palate, the wine was terrific with more raspberry, licorice, and a slight black peeper note. The finish showed good length and complexity. A lot of bang for the buck. Certified Organic
