During the dog days of summer, I can usually be found drinking a beer or sipping white or rosé wine The other night however I was in the mood for a red. Digging through my Wines Under the Radar candidates I found this selection that was suggested to me by a fellow wine enthusiast. My interest was piqued when looking at the back label and saw that the wine was produced from 100% Sousón. This would be a first for me and I can report the wine did not disappoint and at around $15-$18 a stellar value.
The Coto de Gomariz ‘La Flor y la Abeja’ 2016 is deep dark red. The aromas show intense dark cherry with some spice and earthy notes. I was expecting a very full bodied wine but instead found a fresh cherry infused medium bodied, nuanced wine with nice texture, lovely balance, and integrated tannins. A delicious Wines Under the Radar. Yummo!
