All right my friends, Wines Under the Radar picked up a beautiful white wine from Portugal today. However before I ramble on, you must be willing to get out of your comfort zone today as the grape varietals here are not household names (i.e. Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, etc.). The grapes are indigenous to this region, the Dão, which is one of the oldest, prolific, and prestigious regions of Portugal.
Made from 50% Encruzado, Bical, 15% Malvasia Fina, 15% Bical, 15% Cerceal Branco, and 5% Others, the Gota Prunus Branco, Dão 2017 is absolutely delicious. The pronounced aromas of peach, pear, light flowers, and nice mineral edge are worth the price alone ($14 -$16!!!! – Seriously). The flavors have pear and melon notes along with that same mineral note. Rather rich (medium-bodied) and mouth coating. The long finish completes a very well made wine.
