Papras Winery ‘Pleiades’ 2018, Tyrnavos, Greece

I am truly amazed at the quality and value of the wines coming out of Greece. While I am unfamiliar with many of the regions and the varietals, there is no denying the quality of the wines. Wines Under the Radar keeps learning, growing, and exploring. When I taste wines like the current selection, I can only imagine the plethora of wines waiting to be savored. Remember, get out of your comfort zone, have some fun. Let’s go!

The Papras ‘Pleiades’ 2018 is  made from 100% Roditis, one of the most widely planted grape variety in Greece. Who knew? The wine was fermented using indigenous yeasts and in contact with the skins for 25 days. Bottled unfiltered, the wine is ever so lightly cloudy, medium golden in color and there is a slight film on the outside rim of the glass. Skeptical? The aromas are so cool; caramel, honey, and a  faint hint of sea salt – like sitting on the beach. On the palate, the wine is just as interesting with notes of minerals, caramel, and salinity. Certified Organic and more importantly, down-right delicious. At $22 – $26 a bottle this wine fits the bill for Wines Under the Radar!
